Privacy Policy for filebuddy.io
Last Updated: June 5, 2026
At FileBuddy.io, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our secure cloud storage and file sharing platform.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By accessing or using FileBuddy.io, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect several types of information from and about users of our platform, including:
A. Personal Information You Provide
Account Information: When you register for an account, we collect your first name, last name, email address, password (stored securely as a one-way cryptographic hash), and optional profile details such as a profile photo, language, country, and timezone.
Billing and Payment Information: If you purchase a subscription plan or download quota top-up, your payment details (such as credit card numbers, billing address, and transaction history) are collected and processed directly by our third-party payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your raw credit card information on our servers; we only retain billing references and transaction histories.
Support and Communications: We collect information you provide when you contact us for technical support, report abuse (such as DMCA copyright notices, CSAM, malware, or harassment), or send us other feedback.
B. User Content (Your Files)
Uploaded Files and Folders: We store the files, folders, and associated metadata (e.g., file sizes, file types, filenames, creation dates) that you upload to your drive.
Personal Vault: If you use our Personal Vault feature to secure sensitive files, we request a custom vault password. File content placed inside the vault is secured, and access is strictly gated behind your vault password.
C. Technical and Usage Data
Log and Device Data: We collect information sent by your browser or device when you access our services. This includes your IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, time and date of visits, and referrer URLs.
File Interaction and Share Logs: To manage public links, track download quotas, and provide analytics on your shared files, we log file views, downloads, bandwidth consumption, and the IP addresses of downloaders.
Security and System Logs: We monitor and log service usage to detect and prevent unauthorized access, abuse (e.g., spamming, uploading malware), or other violations of our Terms of Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected data for various purposes, including to:
Provide, operate, and maintain FileBuddy.io (including storage, retrieval, and sharing of your files).
Manage your user account, verify your identity, and enable security features (such as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Personal Vault).
Process transactions, verify subscription statuses, and manage daily or monthly download quotas.
Generate links and manage permissions for sharing files internally or publicly.
Monitor usage patterns and analyze bandwidth consumption to optimize server performance.
Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, security incidents, abuse, copyright infringement (DMCA), and other illegal activities.
Send you system alerts, security updates, and administrative communications.
3. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We value your privacy and do not sell your personal data. We only share your information in the following circumstances:
A. Public Sharing and User-Initiated Shares
Shared Links: When you generate a public share link, anyone with that link can access and download the shared files (unless protected by a password or restricted by download/import limitations set by you).
Internal Collaboration: When you share folders or files with specific users via their email address, those users will have access according to the permissions (view, download, upload, edit) you assign.
Upload Requests: If you create an upload request, guest users can upload files directly to your designated folder, and their files will be visible to you as the folder owner.
B. Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with trusted third-party providers who perform services on our behalf:
Payment Processing: We use Stripe to process billing, subscriptions, and quota purchases.
Storage and Hosting Backends: We utilize secure cloud storage infrastructures (such as Amazon S3 or compatible object storage systems) to store uploaded files.
Email Delivery: We utilize external transactional mail services to send account verification, password resets, and notifications.
C. Legal Compliance and Protection
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, subpoena, or court order; protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of FileBuddy.io, our users, or the public; or prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing, copyright infringement, or violations of our Terms of Service.
4. Data Security
We implement robust technical and organizational security measures to safeguard your personal data and files:
Encryption in Transit: All communications between your device and our servers are encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS).
Encryption at Rest: Files stored on our backend servers are protected using industry-standard encryption protocols.
Account Safeguards: We support Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) via TOTP authenticator applications to secure account access.
Personal Vault: Files placed in your vault are password-protected and hidden from standard directory listings, adding an extra layer of privacy.
Note: While we use commercial-grade security practices to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee its absolute security.
5. Data Retention
Account Data: We retain your account information and files for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services.
Trash and Recoverable Items: Deleted files are moved to the Trash, where they remain for a period specified by your subscription plan. After deletion from the Trash, files may be held briefly in Recoverable Items for emergency restoration before being permanently purged from our storage drives.
Subscription Expiration: If a paid subscription expires or is canceled, storage limits may be reduced to standard free tier limits. Files exceeding the free tier storage limit may be subject to deletion after notice is provided.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction (such as under the GDPR in the European Union or the CCPA in California), you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Right to Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Right to Rectification: You can update your account information directly in your Profile Settings at any time.
Right to Erasure (Deletion): You can delete your account. Upon account deletion, all personal data, files, folders, and sharing configurations will be permanently and irreversibly deleted from our servers.
Right to Restrict or Object: You can restrict or object to how we process your information.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
7. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences (such as light/dark mode theme selection and folder layout views), and defend against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks.
We do not use tracking cookies for third-party advertising or cross-site tracking. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but some features of FileBuddy.io may not function correctly without them.
